Transmission faults The worst thing you can expect when buying a used car is to get a transmission slipping issue and harsh shifting that would eventually lead to a transmission rebuild. Sadly, this happened to most Civic owners that purchased a 2001 to 2002 model year Civic with a 4-speed or 5-speed automatic transmission.

1.4 idle speed unstable. hi bought a 1.4 type s 2 weeks ago and have noticed the idle jumps around a bit when its warmed up. it will sit at 1000-900 rpm for a while then drop to say 750rpm then after say 5 secs will jump to 900-1000 for say 10 secs then drop again it will repeat this for as long as its idling. car only done 200 miles just
The Civic's 1.4-litre petrol engine is a little out of its depth in the Civic, developing 99bhp and 93-lb-ft of torque. This makes for a leisurely 0-62mph time of 13.4 seconds and a top speed of 116mph. The Civic disappoints when the road gets twisty thanks to vague, lifeless steering. It's also very firm on anything but the smoothest roads.
As far as I know you don't have to alter your driving style. Driving in 4th or 5th on the motorway may cause a passive regen. If your normal driving doesn't cause a regen then the engine will start an active regen and your MPG will fall drastically whilst it is doing it. So either way the dpf gets cleared.
